If you love mirrors, you’re already looking at your large and precious mirrors and dreading the fact that soon you’ll have to load them into a moving van and transport them to a new home. It’s easy to understand your terror. Not only are mirrors extremely expensive and often difficult to replace, but they are also extremely delicate. One wrong move and your precious mirrors are destroyed beyond repair.
Use Extra Packaging Material
Packaging material is expensive so we understand the urge to use as little of it as you possibly can, but we want you to understand that when it comes to your mirror, it’s better to spend more and make sure your mirror is properly protected during the move. In addition to wrapping lots of bubble wrap around your mirror, slide it into a well-padded box. If you don’t have a large enough box, swaddle the mirror in lots of blankets.
Don’t Hurry
You want to get the move over as quickly as possible, but when it comes to your large mirrors, you need to be patient. One of the main reasons mirrors are damaged during the move is because people are moving too quickly and they either drop the mirror, bang it on something, or simply trip over their own feet and lose their grip on the mirror.
When it comes to large and well-loved mirrors, you need to move slowly and carefully.
Let the Movers Know About the Mirror
It’s a good idea to let movers know that you have (or more) large mirrors before they start packing. They’ll likely ask for the mirror’s dimensions. The advantage of knowing about the mirror at the start of the move is that they can set aside space in the moving van where the mirror will be well protected from road jostling.
Consider Insurance
Accidents happen and mirrors will occasionally break even when everyone uses extreme care. It’s for this reason that you should consider insuring your mirror. Keep the insurance on the mirror until you’ve found a safe place for it in your new home.
